NLarge vs. Zoomit

I’ve mentioned NLarge and Zoomit a number of times on this blog and in "How To Give Great Presentations". Both tools allow you to zoom the screen and draw on the screen during presentations to focus attention on something. Both products seems to be gently leap frogging each other with one having superior features than the other at any one time. Until recently I had favoured NLarge over Zoomit because I felt that NLarge’s zooming functionality was smoother than that of Zoomit. However, I was also frustrated with NLarge because it makes the screen flash when you switch into drawing mode and this can be really irritating and also because it lacked anything but really basic drawing functionality. Consequently whenever you annotate a screen it ends up looking like scribble which is unprofessional and lowers the effectiveness of the presentation.

The good news is that Zoomit has been updated and currently I favour Zoomit over NLarge. Firstly the screen doesn’t flicker when you switch into drawing mode. Secondly the drawing functionality is superior and specifically you can draw straight lines, squares, rectangles, ellipses and arrows. The result is that your screens still look professional after you’ve drawn on them. I am happy once again (thanks, Mark Russinovich and whoever else at Microsoft is continuing to update Zoomit).

Many thanks, Rob, as a consumer of these two excellent products I am delighted that you and the guys work hard on your respective products that you give for free. I will certainly check out the new version.

I’ve updated NLarge so that it no longer glitches at the start of a zoom, and I’ve also added some enhanced drawing functionality. However, if Mark and the ZoomIt gang could just give me smooth zooms in AND out, I’d retire NLarge. Great to see they’re still updating it.
